Nona Grampp, of "Nona's of Alexandria @ RubyLane", has kindly allowed me to feature her photos of this Robert S. Gatter Jewelry catalog from the year 1900 on RCJ.   Mr. Gatter was a New York jeweler and diamond dealer who lived from 1865 to 1940.

This publication for fine jewelry helps us date costume jewelry from the same era, because costume jewelry usually reflects fine jewelry styles and materials.   If karat gold and pearls were popular in fine jewelry, then gold colored metal and imitation pearls would likely be popular in costume jewelry.
